Parry Sound is one step closer to enhancing tourism in the area through the development of Parry Sound Place. The development will include a 500-seat acoustically enhanced auditorium and a hall of fame, which will serve as a tribute to Bobby Orr and other professional Canadian athletes from across the north.
FedNor recently supported the initiative with a $2.96-million contribution. Northern Ontario Heritage Fund has also supported the iniative with a $4.2-million grant, on the condition the town secure $1.5 million in private-sector investment on the town's waterfront.
In late 2001, the town secured a waterfront developer for the former Shell property.
