The cleanup of a former brownfield industrial site on Parry Sound's waterfront has begun. The sale of the 11-acre former Shell property to undisclosed developers was finalized Dec. 17. The developers have hired an environmental remediation company to begin the process expected to be complete by the summer. Final cleanup costs have yet to be determined, but initial estimates were in the $750,000-range. The municipality is offering grants for brownfield properties, to be repaid over the next few years. The grants are based on taxes expected to be generated by the development in covering cleanup costs. A site plan from the developers has not been prepared.
