A planning group for the development of a multimillion-dollar waterfront project in Muskoka is optimistic a SuperBuild funding request of $20 million will come through due to substantial private-sector support.
The Muskoka Wharf Development Group recently submitted an application to the province to help fund the development of a heritage-themed project, which includes a museum, boardwalks, interpretive centre, restaurants, shops, a hotel and a boat building school.
The Town of Gravenhurst has already received $5 million from the heritage fund for the project.
An official with the development group says private-sector interest is evident, with a partner already lined up prepared to invest in excess of $20 million in the major infrastructure project. The waterfront project is anticipated to bring in about $400,000 annually in local tax revenues for the Town of Gravenhurst.
