The owners of a fledgling marijuana cultivation facility, near Kirkland Lake, report an important milestone has been passed toward approval for a sale license to offer cannabis flower and oils.

48North Cannabis Corporation, the parent company of DelShen Therapeutics, provided an update on a recent Health Canada inspection of its indoor cultivation operation in northeastern Ontario.

The inspection took place May 24 following Health Canada's initial inspection that took place via an online web conference on March 16.

"Our team at the facility has been working diligently to meet Health Canada's standards and regulations," said 48North CEO Alison Gordon in a May 29 news release.

"We're excited to move into the next phase of our growth."

The facility is located on 800 acres of land and is authorized by Health Canada to be a producer of dried and fresh cannabis and cannabis oil for medical purposes.

DelShen received a license to cultivate cannabis in February 2017.

Located in a refurbished former Ministry of Natural Resources tree nursery building, the 40,000-square-foot “closed-box” indoor facility has an additional 200,000 square feet of potential production space within a secured perimeter.

In the beginning, the facility will have a production capacity of 2,500 kilograms per year.

As the business takes off, the company has two phases of expansion in the works that would boost production to 40,000 kilograms.

Delshen is accepting applications to work at the Kirkland Lake facility through its website.
