A marketing campaign promoting the City of North Bay is being celebrated by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO).

The EDCO named the campaign as top contender in the Special Events (population 50,000-250,000) category during its 2018 Awards of Excellence, held during the organization’s 62nd annual conference and showcase Jan. 29-31, 2019, in Toronto.

Called Experience North Bay, the campaign included a series of investment attraction and awareness initiatives that took place in conjunction with the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship, held March 17-25, 2018, to capitalize on the significant exposure garnered from the event.

“Tying investment and growth initiatives to a world-class sporting event was a great way to attract interest and leverage community assets,” the city said in a news release. “We will continue to work with community partners to leverage the exposure garnered by future events.”

The campaign was a joint initiative of several organizations, including the city’s Economic Development Department, Invest North Bay Development Corp., Tourism North Bay, the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce, and Curling Canada.

This year, the EDCO received 98 submissions, which were received and evaluated by an expert panel of judges with experience in marketing, communications, tourism and industrial/commercial development.
