The best and most inspirational companies and individuals were recognized at the 27th annual Northern Ontario Business Awards in North Bay, Oct. 3.
The gala event attracted more than 400 attendees to the Surtees Athletic Centre on the campus of Nipissing University and Canadore College. This year's event was co-hosted by North Bay Mayor Al McDonald and Northern Ontario Business Publisher Patricia Mills.
Three companies took home awards in the Company of the Year category.
Central Welding and Iron Works of North Bay were recognized in the 51 + employee category.
Cedar Meadows Resort and Spa of Timmins came away a winner in the 16 to 50 employee slot, and N-Sci Technologies of Sault Ste. Marie won in the 1 to 15-employee category.
Sudbury's Jeff Fuller of Fuller Industrial Corporation was chosen Entrepreneur of the Year.
Frank Chartrand and Nico Taus of the Bureau Group in Sudbury were recognized as Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Millson Forestry Service of Timmins won the Innovation Award.
Young Forestry Service of North Bay took home the First Nation Business Award of Excellence.
Canadore College of North Bay was named the Entrepreneurial Community of the Year.
North Bay Computers Services walked away with the Judges' Choice Award.
KBM Resources Group of Thunder Bay was selected for the Export Award.
Jessica Serre of Kapuskasing, a student at Nipissing University, was named the Union Gas Essay Scholarship.
The Northern Ontario Business Awards has become the largest gathering of its kind in Northern Ontario since its launch in 1986.
Next year's event is slated for Sault Ste. Marie, Sept. 24 to 25.
