A North Bay gathering of the aerospace flock

Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Jay Aspin has officially announced an Aerospace Forum is scheduled for Canadore College's Aviation Campus in North Bay, Nov. 7 and 8.

The two-day promotional event is geared toward enhancing North Bay's profile in Canada's $22-billion aerospace industry by attracting major aerospace companies and local aviation suppliers that will “take North Bay to the next level in aerospace.”

The college's campus is located at Jack Garland Airport.

Aspin has sent federal industry minister James Moore an invitation to tour the campus, the airport, and conduct a roundtable with the companies to discuss the industry's future direction.

In an Oct. 4 press release, Aspin said one of his priorities is the development of an Aerospace Centre of Excellence (ACE) at the airport.

“We have a tremendous base of strength in this sector in North Bay and we need to build on it,” said Aspin, the co-chair of the parliamentary aerospace caucus in an Oct. 4 press release. This past summer, he led the group on tours of major aerospace hubs in Montreal, Toronto and Winnipeg.

“This forum will be first major step in showcasing our valuable assets to the big players in the industry to assist us in determining how we can contribute to building Canada’s aerospace capacity. This will be an important job generator for our region as it will have significant spinoff benefits.”
