SUDBURY – Nov. 24, 2021– NATT Safety Services, in partnership with Gezhtoojig Employment and Training, have come together to deliver a six-week job readiness certificate and diploma program with a choice of specialization at the end of the six-week program.

“Ontario is currently experiencing a major skilled trades gap, so we wanted to help fill this gap by creating an inclusive skilled workforce of Indigenous people for employment opportunities with various employers seeking safety-conscious, ready-to-work employees for their industry,” shares Sandra Martin, special projects coordinator with Gezhtoojig Employment and Training.

“We’re really excited about this partnership, and the program itself,” shares Sarah Samson, sales manager at NATT Safety Services.

“With the increase in open job positions, the need for qualified, trained workers is huge, and this program will prepare participants for the integration into the industrial, mining, construction, and/or forestry sectors and will create opportunities for entry level employment or apprenticeships.”

Some of the certifications obtained through the program include:

  • cultural awareness training
  • importance of Indigenous presence in m
  • working at heights (ministry approved)
  • confined space entry and awareness (theory and practical)
  • WHMIS 2015
  • young and new workers awareness
  • soft skills and workplace readiness
