Martin Gurbin to lead Verv Technologies Inc.

Experienced executive will lead next chapter of Sudbury med-tech startup

Marty Gurbin has been named CEO of the Sudbury med-tech startup Verv Technologies.

SUDBURY — Sept. 16, 2022: Verv Technologies’ board of directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin (Marty) Gurbin as CEO.

Marty brings with him a deep understanding of global health care and health innovation, emerging health technologies, and an international network from 20-plus years in healthcare and startups.

Gurbin has assumed this position at an exciting time in the company’s transformation, given the recent investment in Verv, from UK-based multinational Randox Laboratories.

"Marty has been recruited to take Verv to the next level,and help us become a successful health-tech company," says Jeff Sutton, president and founder of Verv Technologies. "Now is the perfect time, as our momentum builds, leaving me to focus on our technology, biotests, and certifications."

Sutton will now shift into the role of chief technology officer (CTO), to focus on acceleration of Verv’s core intellectual property and blood-testing technologies.

About Martin Gurbin: Marty brings a wealth of experience to help ensure Verv’s transition to commercial success. He’s held highly visible roles in the health system and innovation ecosystems, as senior economist with the Ontario Hospital Association, director of the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario, director of business development and innovation and vice-president/founder of Sunnybrook International, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre — one of Canada’s largest academic and research-intensive hospitals. He was also Ontario’s lead health innovation broker. In the past five years, through his consultancy Metamor Health Inc., Marty’s worked with leaders from 250-plus medical device, digital health and life sciences startups, scaleups, hospitals and business accelerators across many jurisdictions securing partnerships, funding, defining and implementing business strategy and building teams.

Verv Technologies: Verv is focused on creating the first of its kind consumer-oriented, affordable, high-quality blood chemistry analyser with disposable tests for home use, that will help individuals measure a wide range of analytes (i.e. cholesterol, vitamin levels, hormones). Verv will empower consumers, help them take control of their own health, transform access to blood testing, and improve timely decision-making between consumers and their health-care providers.
