North Bay-based Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (ONTC) has hired Grant Bailey as its new vice-president of rail.

Bailey has 37 years of experience in rail operations, maintenance and management, formerly holding positions with Canadian National Railway, RailAmerica, and Ontario Northland. Most recently he has worked with SNC-Lavalin and been involved in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of light rail transit systems in both Vancouver and Ottawa.

Bailey is a professional engineer, has extensive experience managing large rail infrastructure projects, and is highly regarded among rail professionals throughout Canada.

“I feel honoured to welcome Grant Bailey back to our team,” said Corina Moore, Ontario Northland’s president and CEO, in a March 1 news release. “He brings a tremendous amount of expertise, technical know-how and industry leadership to our rail division.”

The company said Bailey will be responsible for strengthening operations by providing leadership, developing effective and innovative strategies for continuous improvement, collaborating with communities, and ensuring the highest standards for safety and compliance.

Bailey will serve as a key member of the leadership team, and will shape company policy, provide valuable advice to the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission, and work with many levels of government.

“I am very excited to join Ontario Northland,” said Bailey. “This is an opportunity to return to Northern Ontario and contribute to strengthening the vital transportation services that Ontario Northland provides to the people and businesses of the region.”

Bailey assumes his new role in August.
