North Bay’s Voyageur Aviation lands defence contract

North Bay aircraft refurbisher Voyageur Aviation has been awarded a Department of National Defence (DND) contract to provide upgrades to the military’s fleet of Dash aircraft.

DND and Winnipeg-based 402 Squadron operates a fleet of four Dash 8-100 CT-142 aircraft for the purpose of training air combat systems officers and airborne electronic sensor operators.

According to Nov. 16 Voyageur news release, the modifications will include upgrades to the communications, navigation, surveillance, and air traffic management avionics along with replacement and integration of upgraded radar systems with training..

Based in the aerospace industrial park at Jack Garland Airport, Voyageur said this latest contract builds on their portfolio of work on special mission aircraft.

“The award of this contract supports our growth strategy of developing defence programs related to special mission aircraft services," said Voyageur’s Carl Kumpic, vice president of defence and government programs, in a statement.

"We are very pleased to support DND on the modifications and sustainment of this unique training fleet which is an important training component for Canada's next generation of special mission operators helping to ensure Canada's interests domestically and abroad."
