The provincial government is seeking to sink $7.2 million into Highway 17 in the Townships of Head, Clara and Maria, a portion of the Trans-Canada Highway which links North Bay and Ottawa.

Transportation Minister Donna Cansfield made the funding announcement on August 23, adding that nearly 8,000 vehicles use the road on a daily basis in order to deliver goods and travel between the two cities.

The funds are expected to include a host of changes, such as repaving 12.8 kilometres worth of road, beginning from the Stonecliffe area and moving eastwards.  Other work is set to include the addition of two passing lanes three kilometres east of Stonecliffe, as well as upgrades to various intersections, guiderails and signs. Work is expected to be completed by summer of 2007.
