Manitoulin Transport has opened a new terminal near Barrie, Ont., which it says will provide better customer service for customers.
Features of the state-of-the-art, 21,300-square-foot building include 22 dock doors, electric forklifts and energy-efficient LED lighting, dock scales that provide accurate weights, and heaters in the dock and storage areas to protect freight during colder months.
The company said the facility will enable faster and more efficient loading and unloading of shipments along with increased storage capabilities.
“We continue to make significant investments in our facilities and expand our North American coverage to best meet growing demand and better serve our customers,” Jeff King, president at Manitoulin Transport, in a March 16 news release.
“From its size, location and the quality of equipment used, our new Barrie terminal allows us to provide efficient, reliable shipping for our customers and a safe and efficient work environment for our team. We also have the ability to expand the facility in the future by 50 per cent to keep up with growing demand.”

Located just south of Barrie, and about an hour from Toronto, the terminal is situated near the 400 highway and other major arteries, providing easy access to and from Northern and southern Ontario, the company noted.
Headquartered in Gore Bay, situated on the west end of Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron, Manitoulin Transport has been in business for more than 60 years.
The company provides trucking services including expedited less than truckload and truckload, transborder, intermodal, private fleet, guaranteed service, temperature-controlled, dangerous goods and supply chain management.
