Manitoulin Transport has expanded its logistics footprint to B.C. with the acquisition of Trident Freight Logistics.

Based in Surrey, B.C., Trident was established in 1998, and primarily serves the mining, heavy machinery, steel and pipe, and rail industries. The company specializes in long-haul moves within Canada and the U.S.

"Bringing Trident into the group enhances the flexibility of our ground transportation offerings,” said Jeff King, Manitoulin Transport president, in a May 14 news reelase.

“This enables us to accommodate the bigger, more complex and highly customized moves.

“We will continue to expand our logistics division through acquisitions and organic growth in keeping with our commitment to always anticipate customers' needs and find new and better ways to provide them with convenience, quality, and choice, wherever they may be.”

Headquartered in Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island, Manitoulin Transport was founded in 1960 and remains family-owned and -operated.

As a leading transportation and logistics solutions provider, it offers services including expedited less-than-truckload and truckload, transborder, intermodal, private fleet, guaranteed service, heavy haul, temperature-controlled, dangerous goods and supply chain management.

It now has more than 70 terminals in Canada and 250 service centres in the U.S.
