The decision to reinstate Canadore Colleges helicopter pilot program for the upcoming 2004-2005 academic year is up in the air.

The college's board of governors voted for the return of the program that was suspended in 1996, but must await the approval from the Ontario

Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities before taking any action.

A partnership with Gateway Helicopters was formed after the program was suspended in order to continue providing training. However, due to a shortage of instructors and the sudden death of Gateway's chief flight instructor, both parties decided it was in their best interest to part ways.

Canadore College president Barbara Taylor is optimistic the program will be reinstated and believes there is a good chance that the program will be offered by the college in September 2004.
