Nearly $120 million is set to be invested by the Ontario government across two expansion projects of Highway 11, south of North Bay, according to an announcement on August 24.

As part of the government's stated commitment to complete the four-laning of Highway 11 from Katrine to Burk's Falls by 2012, the first project will involve the next phase of this initiative.  This will include the construction of eight bridges, a new interchange at Ferguson Road /Highway 520, as well as the re-alignment of Highway 592 /Sunset Pass Drive from Deer Lake Road to Katrine Road.  Work for this project is currently underway and is slated to be finished in late 2008.

The second project will feature the construction of 9.5 kilometres of new four-lane roadway between Boundary Road and the existing end of the four-laning north of South River.  This process will involve the construction of seven new bridges as well as interchanges at Boundary Road and the north entrance to South River.  A snowmobile culvert will also be built near the Boundary Road interchange.  This project is set to begin in the near future, and is likely to be completed in October 2009.

This announcement represents part of the $357 million being spent by the provincial government in highway development throughout the North within the next year.
