Health and safety forums aim to keep workplaces ‘ahead of the curve’

Workplace Safety & Prevention Services will host trio of Northern Ontario conferences this spring and fall

Workplace Safety & Prevention Services’ (WSPS) annual conference series is set to kick off in Sault Ste. Marie this spring.

Themed ‘Ahead of the Curve,’ the 2024 Partners in Prevention Regional Conference Series comprises a number of events held at locations throughout the province, including in Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and Thunder Bay.

Each event features presentations by guest speakers, workshops and a tradeshow. Content at this year’s conferences aims to “prepare organizations, workplaces and employees to embrace change and be future ready.”

“Leaders need to be proactive, staying ahead of the curve by developing change-ready cultures where workplaces are engaged, employees succeed, and businesses thrive,” notes a WSPS program synopsis.

“Stretching our imaginations and tapping hidden potential to new innovations and technologies in health and safety — workplaces are looking to the future to build meaningful work that will continue to enhance performance while protecting people and building strong communities.

Northern Ontario dates include:

  • May 14 in Sault Ste. Marie at the Delta Hotels by Marriott
  • June 20 in Sudbury at the Holiday Inn
  • Nov. 4-5 in Thunder Bay (location and details to be determined)

Highlights of the two spring events include a keynote address by Wylie Davidson, a motivational speaker and safety culture specialist, and Jill Heinerth, an author and world-renowned underwater explorer.

Other topics to be discussed include the ongoing opioid crisis, heat stress management, the proper use of lockout/tagout, the power of joint health and safety committees, and more.

WSPS is a non-profit agency of the Province of Ontario providing health and safety expertise and resources for Ontario workers and businesses in the agricultural, manufacturing, and service sectors.
