Cambrian College in Sudbury has teamed up with welding oversight body CWB Group to offer a new welding course.

The CWBi Acorn program will be offered through the Sudbury school’s corporate training division. CWBi Acorn is a new national initiative to provide standardized training, testing, assessment, credentials and recruiting at a national level.

Companies and individuals can have their welding and fabrication skills independently measured through accredited training, testing, and assessments that will take place online and in the college’s labs and workshops.

Acorn training provides critical learning at all levels within the trade, along with assessments and detailed reports that measure a welder or fabricator’s skills against the national benchmark set by the CWB.

Cambrian College is the first post-secondary school in Canada to offer the Acorn program. Among the companies using the program is Vale’s Sudbury division.
