A Mattawa eatery specializing in Thai cuisine has landed on a list of the best bars and restaurants around the globe.
Le Voyageur Inn, which is located about 45 minutes east of North Bay, is listed among the 2023 winners of the Restaurant & Bar Awards as named by Luxe Life Magazine. The inn’s restaurant is being recognized as having the best Thai food in northeastern Ontario.
UK-based Luxe Life annually judges applicants based on their merit and capabilities, showcasing those that meet their criteria. This is the seventh consecutive year for the awards.
Le Voyageur was selected as a winner earlier this year, but only received its award this month.
Built in 1881, the inn underwent major renovations after being purchased by Sudawan and Quaisar Butt, who relocated to Canada from Bangkok, Thailand.
After the couple introduced authentic Thai dishes to their menu, people have flocked to the restaurant for popular dishes like Pad Thai, curry, and Tom Yum, but the restaurant also serves North American fare, such as pasta, steak, and more.
The eatery routinely earns four- and five-star reviews from travellers posting to online review sites such as TripAdvisor, where they rave about the “delicious” food.
