The federal government has launched a $500-million fund to help tourism-related organizations that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.

Originally announced in Budget 2021 as part of a $1-billion tourism funding package, the Tourism Relief Fund opened for applications on July 12. The two-year program will conclude on March 31, 2023.

Of the funds, $485 million will be delivered to eligible applicants through regional development agencies; $50 million has been set aside for Indigenous tourism-related enterprises.

The remaining $15 million will flow through Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada to support destination development, seasonal and local attractions, and human resources and skills development.

In Northern Ontario, the money will flow through FedNor.
