Upgrades are being made to the Georgian Bay Cycling Route to boost cycle tourism in the Manitoulin Island region.

FedNor announced funding of $22,500 to enable Manitoulin Island Cycling Advocates, in partnership with the LaCloche-Manitoulin Business Assistance Corp. (LAMBAC), a Community Futures Development Corporation, to develop a strategic plan for proposed upgrades to the route. Once complete, the strategy will help determine the feasibility of connecting existing cycling trails to maximize the tourism and economic potential of the region.

“LAMBAC has a proud history of investing in projects that create jobs and generate positive economic results for the Manitoulin region,” said Dave Ham, chair of LAMBAC. “On behalf of the people, businesses and communities we serve, I would like to thank the Government of Canada and FedNor for supporting the continued growth of our economy.”

The funding is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
