Contact North/Contact Nord, Northern Ontario’s distance education and training network, hosted its first international roundtable on e-learning on March 25 and 26 in Toronto.

Maxim Jean-Louis, president and CEO of Contact North/Contact Nord assembled a panel of experts from Australia, Canada, Europe and the U.S. to develop a snapshot of the realities, myths, challenges, and opportunities in e-learning today. They identified a number of building blocks for an e-learning strategy.

The participants in this first Contact North roundtable on e-learning have developed a valuable resource for educational institutions, policymakers, and technology service providers who need to make critical decisions about e-learning, says Jean-Louis.

Dianne Cunningham, provincial Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, addressed the roundtable participants on March 25.

“E-Learning presents a tremendous opportunity to increase access to skills development here in Ontario, Canada and around the world. Knowledge is now the driver of the world economy, and our knowledge workers need to constantly improve their skills and knowledge in order to ensure our continued economic prosperity. We must continue to encourage and effectively manage the growth of e-learning to ensure that we retain and enhance our competitive advantage.”
