Worker missing in remote area of Matheson-area mine, Ministry of Labour investigating

Ministry says the person works for mining contractor Major Drilling

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) is investigating after a worker went missing at a Matheson-area mine yesterday. 

The ministry was notified of the incident on Feb. 8. It says Major Drilling worker went missing in a remote area of Kirkland Lake Gold's Taylor Mine. 

"MLTSD inspectors have been dispatched to the scene and the investigation is ongoing," reads a statement. An OPP news release says they received a call about a worksite accident yesterday around 5:30 p.m.

Police, paramedics, the Matheson Fire Department and mine rescue units attended the scene.  More details will be posted when available.
