Ontario and Quebec share top honours as the world's best place for mining investment, according to the Fraser Institute. After finishing third in last year's annual survey, both provinces beat out Australia, Chile, Brazil and Nevada for investment attractiveness and mineral potential. Northern Development and Mines Minister Dan Newman attributes the improvement to his government's tax cuts, reduction in red tape, an aggressive geoscience survey program and funding for mineral exploration research. The fifth annual survey is based on interviews conducted with 162 globally operating companies in the Vancouver think-tank's analysis of government policy, regulations and mineral potential that influence investment decisions.
