Peter Kaiser, president and CEO of CEMI, will now be working closely with newly appointed deputy director Doug Morrison.

The Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) has added fresh blood to the upper echelons of its roster, with the appointment of mining veteran Doug Morrison as deputy director, effective Nov. 1.

In his new role, Morrison will be tasked with forming relationships with industry, academic institutions, government, as well as research and development agencies operating at the provincial and federal levels.

Morrison previously worked with many such institutions and agencies through his career, including CEMI, as well as Mining Innovation, Rehabilitation, and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO), and the Canadian Mining Industry Research Organization (CAMIRO).

This expertise and experience is expected to help expand the range of technical issues that can be addressed through CEMI's research and development activities.

Morrison has 15 years experience in underground mining operations, as well as 15 years as a consultant, which include four years as Golder Associates' global mining leader.
