The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) is recognizing industry contributions with its 2020 Celebration of Excellence.
Though the annual convention and celebration banquet had to be cancelled this year due to COVID-19, the CIM has gone ahead and announced those being recognized for their contributions in various fields in the mining industry.
Winners with Northern Ontario connections are highlighted below.
The A.O. Dufresne Exploration Achievement Award goes to Great Bear Resources for its ongoing exploration and development of the Dixie Project in Red Lake.
Courtney Nunn, the mine manager at Lake Shore Gold's Timmins West site, has been named one of the CIM’s Bedford Canadian Young Mining Leaders.
Two Northern Ontario mines were recognized with John T. Ryan Trophies, which acknowledge the mines with the lowest reportable injury frequencies during the previous year: Kidd Operations – A Glencore Company in Timmins, and DeBeers Canada's Victor Mine in the James Bay Lowlands.
Outgoing CIM president Roy Slack, director at Cementation Americas, was presented with a plaque for his leadership during the 2019-2020 year.
Mohammed Ali, the vice-president of environment at Kirkland Lake Gold, received the Excellence in Sustainable Development Award.
