Goldcorp has launched the 2019 edition of the #DisruptMining challenge.

The annual competition is designed to accelerate innovation in mining by inviting innovators to submit new ideas and technologies that address challenges faced by the mining industry.

Submissions are being accepted until Monday, Nov. 5, 2018.

Now in its third year, the competition will this year be cohosted by KPMG.

Selected finalists will pitch their idea before a judges’ panel comprised of industry experts, who will choose a winner. The prize is CAD$1 million and the opportunity to network with mining executives, investors and financiers to take their idea to market.

The event will take place during the 2019 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada convention in Toronto in March.

In 2017, the contest winner was Acoustic Zoom, which uses high-frequency 3-D imaging to help map complex geological formations deep within the earth's micro-structure.

The previous year – the first for the competition – Cementation of North Bay share first prize with  Kore Geosystems of Toronto.

Cementation pitched its idea for injection hoisting technology, which uses a combination of existing and proven crushing, pumping and slurry technologies to eliminate the need for mine shaft production hoisting or trucking, by transporting ore to the surface using a pump-driven pipeline loop.

Cementation also won the People’s Choice Award that year, adding another $50,000 to its total prize winnings.

Proceeds from the #DisruptMining event will support the future of the mining industry through innovation-focused scholarships.
