G20 Summit moved to Toronto

Toronto, not Huntsville, will host the 10,000 or so attendees of the G20 Summit to be held June 26-27, despite millions of dollars' worth of preparatory investment in and around the Muskoka community.

Confirming what many of his senior ministers have hinted at in previous weeks, Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the official announcement from Seoul, South Korea, amidst a state tour of various Asian countries.

Media reports have speculated that insufficient accommodations and security concerns are to blame for the move.

No mention has been made as to the fate of the G8 summit, though previous reports have indicated it will continue to be hosted in Huntsville, with participants later traveling to Toronto for the G20.

North Bay already received more than $10 million to repave the main runway and taxiway at the Jack Garland Airport.

A second G20 Summit will be hosted in Seoul in November.
