Laurentian University is receiving $535,462 in FedNor funding to buy scientific equipment for the creation of its chemical engineering lab and for the Canada Research Chair in Robotics and Mining Automation (CRC).

The new lab is part of the expansion of Laurentian’s school of engineering that will provide a full four-year program in chemical engineering.

The university will create a laboratory and acquire equipment needed to support the third and fourth years of the chemical engineering program, providing the lab work required in this field of study.

Before, students had to transfer to another school to complete the final two years of their degree.

The other equipment will be used primarily for a two-year research project to develop underwater tele-robotics capability.

The research project will enhance the capacity of the CRC to develop next generation tele-operation technologies that will potentially be applied to mining, construction, outer space and underwater usage.
