The review of a large outpouring of suggested exploration projects in the Abitibi Greenstone belt in northeastern Ontario is expected to be complete by late October.

With rejuvenated public interest in the Discover Abitibi initiative, a joint industry-government project in the Timmins-Kirkland Lake region, a call for proposals to explore mineral deposits resulted in 42 submissions.

An evaluation and prioritization of the proposals will be carried out by a technical committee of regional industry partners and government geologists. The projects will be prioritized based on technical merit and possible economic impact to the Timmins-Kirkland Lake area.

Once the review is complete, funding proposals for the exploration work will be submitted to senior levels of government and private-sector partners.
