Greater Sudbury Police Services and provincial Ministry of Labour representatives are investigating the scene where a fatal incident took place at Vale's Copper Cliff operations.

The nickel miner issued a news release on Aug. 24 that an individual working for an external contractor died at the site of fluid bed roaster baghouse within the company's matte processing plant.

The deceased's name is being withheld, Vale said, out of respect for the family.

The company said it has offered the services of its Critical Incident Stress Management Team to the employees and contractors that were working in the area, as well as the Vale employees that responded to the scene.

“Our thoughts are with the family, co-workers and friends of this individual,” said Dino Otranto, Chief Operating Officer of Vale’s North Atlantic Operations in a statement.

“We are doing everything we can to support them and to better understand what happened during this incident.”
