A Canadian mining association is seeking to increase its presence in Northern Ontario.

The Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE) is considering forming branches to better serve its 250-plus mining supplier members across Canada, including about 50 in Sudbury and northeastern Ontario. The Markham, Ont. trade association acts as an advocacy group for the mining industry, but also provides a number of promotional and marketing initiatives through trade shows and missions.

“We’re consulting with our members to determine what kind of local service they wish,” says CAMESE managing director Jon Baird. “We’re trying to get them to prioritize what the local services would be.”

The branches would likely be formed locally and administered with support from the central organization. With a resurgence of exploration and mining, CAMESE wants to carry the Canadian message outside the country. They believe the chapters could offer networking events to gather people of similar interests together.
