The province has teamed up with Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) to promote the SupportOntarioMade.ca directory, which helps consumers to identify products as being manufactured in Ontario.

Launched by CME in July, the directory is designed to support local businesses and manufacturers and, in turn, will support jobs and boost economic growth and renewal.

"When you support our homegrown manufacturers, you are doing more than simply shopping – you are supporting Ontario jobs, Ontario businesses and Ontario families," said Vic Fedeli, minister of economic development, job creation and trade, in an Oct. 29 news release.

"We all have a role to play in our economic recovery. By purchasing the quality products that are synonymous with Ontario Made, you are supporting your family, friends and neighbours and accelerating our economic revival today and into the future."

Visitors can search the directory by category, product or brand name, and each entry includes a brief description of the product, along with a link to the company’s website for more information.

More than 4,600 products from more than 1,200 local manufacturers are registered on the site, which features everything from cosmetics to food products to vehicle manufacturers.

Participating companies are eligible to carry the ‘Ontario Made’ branding, which identifies it as being made in Ontario.

Since the site launched in July, the government said it’s had 25,000 visits, while more than 3,800 people have subscribed to the Ontario Made newsletter.

Funding for the Ontario Made campaign comes from the $50-million Ontario Together Fund.
