Is there more power generation to be had in northwestern Ontario?
That’s what the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) wants to know.
The OPA is gathering information to see if there are any untapped or underutilized power generation options to be found to feed a potentially growing demand for electricity in the region.
The schedule for possible procurement isn’t exactly known, but formal proposals could be due by the end of this year.
The OPA is interested in options related to behind-the-meter generation, stand-alone generation, facility upgrades, demand response, energy efficiency programs, power storage and imports either from within northwestern Ontario or outside.
These projects would have to come into service between 2015 and 2020, but sooner is better.
The deadline for submissions is May 30.
