Kagawong Power has been fined $2,000 in an Ontario Court of Justice for failing to operate its Charlton Generating Station in accordance with an approved water management plan.

Kagawong pleaded guilty to failing to operate within the mandatory water level compliance requirements, for failing to notify the Ministry of Natural Resources within 24 hours of incidences of non-compliance, for failing to provide the ministry with rational and proposed remediation for the non-compliance within 30 days, and failing to submit the required monthly and yearly reports.

The court heard that the ministry received numerous complaints from private landowners concerning water levels on Long Lake, which is situated upstream and southwest of the Charlton Generating Station. An investigation was started.

Justice of the Peace Sylvie- Émanuelle Bourbonnais heard the case in Kirkland Lake, Feb. 4.
