GreenFirst Forest Products has opened an administration office in North Bay to support its rapid growth in northeastern Ontario and western Quebec.

The new office digs are located in downtown North Bay at 222 McIntyre St. West.

The company said it's on hiring binge with job openings listed on its website website at greenfirst.ca/careers. GreenFirst is looking for skilled workers, general labourers and people to fill administrative positions.

The forestry producer, now headquartered in Toronto from Vancouver, said it intends to staff up the North Bay office to 35 full-time employees.

GreenFirst finalized its purchase of four lumber mills and one paper mill in northeastern Ontario from Rayonier at the end of August. The US$235-million acquisition, first announced in April 2021, involved the purchase of sawmills in Chapleau, Cochrane, Hearst and Kapuskasing in Ontario, with the newsprint mill in Kapuskasing also included. Also in the mix are lumber mills in Béarn and La Sarre in Québec.

"We are happy to be a part of the North Bay community" said Rick Doman, CEO of GreenFirst in a Feb. 3 news release. "We offer attractive career prospects and welcome the talent of North Bay and surrounding areas to apply."

"This commitment to locating in North Bay not only supports the company's strategic growth in Northern Ontario and Quebec operations, but it is also a great addition to our downtown business," said Mayor Al McDonald

"We look forward to working with GreenFirst on sustainable forestry management of their paper and lumber mills," said Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.
