The City of Dryden has scored some provincial funding to make upgrades to its main arena.
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund is providing $239,216 to install dehumidifiers and emergency exits at the Dryden Recreation Centre, to update heating and circulation systems, and lay skate-resistant flooring in communal spaces, according to a news release posted on the agency’s website.
The northwestern Ontario municipality has been retrofitting the venue to address major mechanical issues, expand the facility, and extend its operating life.
“This investment preserves the facility for future generations while keeping it accessible and appealing to all members of our community, thereby increasing participation and ensuring it remains inclusive and affordable,” said Dryden Mayor Jack Harrison in the release.
“Our partnership with the City of Dryden has supported enhancements inside and outside the facility, ensuring it remains a vibrant hub for families and community members of all ages all year round,” added Kenora-Rainy River MPP and Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford.
