The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) has announced it will hold its 2023 conference in Parry Sound.

Described as the “voice of the North,” FONOM advocates on behalf of 110 cities, towns, and municipalities from the districts of Algoma, Cochrane, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Sudbury and Timiskaming.

Its stated mission is to improve the economic and social quality of life for northerners and ensure the future of its youth.

The 2023 conference will be held over the span of three days, from Monday, May 8 to Wednesday, May 10, at the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts.

Details on a schedule will be forthcoming.

During the 2022 conference, which was held in North Bay in May, key topics under discussion included the Nuclear Waste Management Organization's safety transportation plan; updates from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation; and homelessness and addiction.
