The Chamber of Commerce (NBDCC) has selected Donna Backer as its new president and CEO.

The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce (NBDCC) has selected Donna Backer as its new president and CEO.

Backer is a lifelong resident of North Bay with experience in both the private and public sectors,

“Donna is no stranger to our chamber as she has provided great leadership as interim president and CEO over the past many months," said Ryan Drouin, chair of the board of directors.

Prior to her time at the NBDCC, Donna was a senior account manager with TWG Communications and executive assistant to MPPs Mike Harris and Al McDonald.

“Prior to serving in the interim role, Donna was the chamber's director of development, policy and communications, since January 2021, where she oversaw the development of new communication strategies and successful campaigns like Shop Local to bring awareness to support local business, working to implement the new Chamber Perks member discount program and has been an asset to the organization by maintaining a positive relationship with members and key stakeholders,” added Drouin.

Backer replaces Peter Chirico, who won the mayor's seat in October's municipal election.

“I look forward to working with the board, staff and our great members of this long-standing chamber to further the organization’s growth, continue to build partnerships, work collaboratively with key stakeholders and advocate fearlessly for business at all levels of government,” said Backer.

The president and CEO has the responsibility for the operation and staff of the NBDCC as it involves programs, planning, working under the policy guidelines of the board of directors and executive committee and acting in accordance with policies, procedures, and bylaws of the NBDCC.

She will commence her new role effective Monday, January 9.
