Though Hilton spokespeople haven’t returned Sudbury.com’s inquiries, we have managed to piece together some details about this development.
The proponent submitted a minor variance application with the City of Greater Sudbury Committee of Adjustment/Sign Variance Committee meeting on Aug. 5, 2020.
Although their final plan may have changed since that time, they proposed a six-storey building with 110 guest rooms. The structure is proposed to be at the centre of the property and surrounded by parking.
The proponent on record with the city is a numbered company, 2725096 Ontario Inc.
A June 28, 2024, franchise disclosure document by Home2 Suites by Hilton associates this number with a property on The Kingsway as a Home2 Suites which has been signed but not yet open.
Home2 Suites by Hilton is a brand of extended-stay hotels, described by the company as “stylish, flexible suite configurations, home-like amenities and multifunctional community spaces for the savvy, sophisticated and value-conscious traveller and their pets.”
The Hilton Garden Inn Sudbury is nearby, at 475 Barrydowne Rd. It has more than 100 guest rooms and opened in early 2021.
