Ontario is making available $9.2 million in grants and funds to support Indigenous economic development initiatives through the province.
Of the funds, $3.2 million comes from the Indigenous Economic Development Fund and $6 million comes from the Indigenous Community Capital Grants Program. Both funds support infrastructure development, community growth planning, and provide employment and training services to help Indigenous workers gain the skills they need for good-paying jobs.
Greg Rickford, minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation, and the minister Responsible for Ring of Fire Economic and Community Partnerships, made the announcement on July 11.
“Now more than ever, Indigenous businesses, organizations and First Nations communities are identifying partnership opportunities to work with our government to build meaningful and lasting economic prosperity,” Rickford said in a news release.
“By investing in community-driven projects across the province that open new doors, strengthen the skilled workforce and promote Indigenous participation, we are protecting Ontario’s economic future in the face of U.S. tariffs and whatever else comes our way.”
The government said in 2024-2025 it invested in 48 projects through the two funds.
