Waubetek Business Development Corp. is seeking nominees from across northeastern Ontario for its 2019 Business Awards Gala.

This year, the Community Futures Development Corp., located in Whitefish River First Nation on the north shore of Lake Huron, will recognize business leaders in four categories:

  • New Entrepreneur of the Year, which is awarded to a new business that has been operational for at least one year;
  • Youth Entrepreneur of the Year, which is awarded to an inspiring youth business or entrepreneur between the ages of 18 and 35, who has operated their business for at least two years or more;
  • Business Achievement, which is awarded to a business or entrepreneur who has been successfully established for several years and who has contributed greatly to the area's First Nation communities through job creation and/or establishing needed services in the region; and 
  • Business Merit, which is awarded to business people who are role models for hard work, business innovation and excellent customer service.

Nominations will be accepted until April 12, and winners will be recognized at Casino Rama Resort in Rama, Ont., on Nov. 7.

Waubetek is an Indigenous-owned and controlled organization that delivers business financing and economic development services to First Nations and Indigenous businesses located throughout northeastern Ontario.

Its goal is to assist in strengthening the economies of the local First Nation, as well as the whole region of Ontario, through business and community development.
