Cementation, the North Bay-based mine builders, opened an expanded shop in the Gateway City amid much fanfare in late October.
An Oct. 27 company news release said the new facility and staging area has a dedicated electrical shop capable of operating and testing electric motors up to 600 horsepower along with a compressed air system to allow for the operation and testing of pneumatic equipment.
New 50 and 20-tonne overhead cranes have been installed and embedded floor anchors to secure hoists and winches for testing.
The company said the increased capacity will allow for additional staff to be hired as the need for Cementation’s services continues to grow. The new facility increases work and warehouse space as well as provides enhanced lifting, electrical and compressed air capacity to further support the servicing of its underground fleet, raise boring plants and shaft sinking equipment which is utilized on mining projects around the globe.
“This new facility expands our capabilities to better service our projects and reinforces our commitment to continue to support our clients’ needs,” said Cementation president Roy Slack in a statement.
The company’s existing 10,000-square-foot shop will be utilized as a heated warehousing space and for shipping/receiving.
