The Town of White River will use $82,100 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund to explore and develop new markets for wood fibre from the White River Sustainable Forest Licence.
The focus is on taking advantage of short and medium term opportunities such as the development of a wood pellet manufacturing plant. The year-long project is being done with the support of the nearby Pic Mobert First Nation.
White River is part of a larger regional development plan to determine how much forest slash biomass is in the area from forestry activities. The data that's gathered will provide critical information for companies looking for locations to build value-added production facilities.
