Noront Resources announced Jan. 21 that its board of directors received the resignation of Wes Hanson as president and chief executive officer.

The Toronto-based Ring of Fire junior miner has appointed Paul Parisotto as interim president-CEO. The search has begun to find a replacement.

Ted Bassett has been appointed lead director.

"On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to thank Wes for his efforts and dedication at Noront over the past three years, and in particular, for leading the completion of a positive feasibility study in September 2012 of our Eagle's Nest Project in the Ring of Fire," said Parisotto in a statement. "This puts the company in a good position as it transitions into development with a focus on the financing and development of the Project and related infrastructure. All of us at Noront wish Mr. Hanson the best in his future endeavours."

Hanson has agreed to stay as a consultant.

Noront is working on its Eagle's Nest nickel- copper-PGM deposit and its Blackbird chromite deposit, both in the Ring of Fire metals camp in the James Bay lowlands.
