Wawa EDC to develop marketing strategy, economic development plan (7/03)

The Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Wawa has $175,000 with which to operate for the next two years. Algoma-Manitoulin MP Brent St. Denis announced the funding recently.

Algoma-Manitoulin MP Brent St. Denis announced the funding recently. The money will be used toward the operating costs of the Wawa EDC over the next two years, including the hiring of an economic development officer and an economic development assistant.

The economic development manager and assistant will be responsible for numerous identified community development initiatives. These include developing a marketing strategy for Wawa, marketing the local industrial park, creating an information technology centre in Wawa, updating and formalizing the economic development strategic plan and strengthening partnerships with regional community organizations such as the Superior East Community Futures Development Corp. (CFDC) and the Michipicoten First Nation.
