Thunder Bay's Wasaya Airways and Lakehead University signed an agreement to fly the university's coaches into the Far North communities to promote sports and healthy living to Aboriginal youth.

A memorandum of understanding was signed in the First Nation air carrier's Thunder Bay hangar, Nov. 21.

The initiative, Reach Up! - Northern Community Sports and Leadership Program, was launched to increase Aboriginal participation in Lakehead programs and also boost future enrolment numbers.

“Over 1,000 Aboriginal students are enrolled at Lakehead University,” said president Brian Stevenson in a press release. “We want to see that number increase.”
