Value-added forestry meeting of the minds

Forestry industry leaders and value-added wood producers from around the globe are gathering to share their knowledge at the Growing Forest Value: Opportunities in Northern Ontario forum in Thunder Bay on Oct. 15 and 16.

Forestry industry leaders and value-added wood producers from around the globe are gathering to share their knowledge at the Growing Forest Value: Opportunities in Northern Ontario forum in Thunder Bay on Oct. 15 and 16.

Hosted by the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre, the forum is being held at the Valhalla Inn and finds industry experts and investors alike exploring new opportunities and generating new ideas.

Interactive displays of wood value-added products and technology are on hand, with local experts demonstrating new equipment. This includes Wayne Howart of Wood-Mizer North Authorized Sales Centre and Dr. Matthew Leitch, forestry professor with Lakehead University, who will demonstrate the Wood-Mizer hydraulic portable sawmill and twin blade edger.

Keynote speakers include Donna Cansfield, Minister of Natural Resources, as well as Ian de la Roche, president and CEO of FP Innovations Inc. and HGTV television personality and home improvement expert Jon Eakes.

Nine breakout sessions will also cover a variety of topics which include technology, marketing, business development, wood supply and new opportunities in the sector.
