Plans are underway to develop extensive walking, hiking, biking and cross-country skiing trails throughout the Greater Sudbury region as part of the Trans Canada Trail system.

Plans are underway to develop extensive walking, hiking, biking and cross-country skiing trails throughout the Greater Sudbury region as part of the Trans Canada Trail system.

The city has applied to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund's Northern Trail Plan for a $2-million grant towards the development of a $4.7-million path, which would link up with the Trans Canada Trail, a 16,000-kilometre multi-use recreational trail plan to link the country.

Once completed, the trail through the region would be 133 kilometres long. With many of the trails already in place, only 38 kilometres of new trails will need to be constructed, along with minor improvements to existing trails.
