The city recently received recommendations for improvements to its four water-treatment plants from three different engineering firms. The combined cost of upgrading all four facilities could run as much as $3 million.

The Timmins water filtration plant, which serves Mountjoy, Timmins,

Schumacher, South Porcupine and Porcupine, will see $700,000 in upgrades, while the Shaw Township well system, providing water to South Porcupine, Porcupine and Whitney, will get $64,680 in improvements.

About $52,600 worth of upgrades will be carried out on the McDonald Lake system.

Upgrades will include everything from fixing leaky pipes and erecting a fence, to providing additional flexibility to chlorine piping arrangements and buying a new fax machine for the Timmins filtration plant.

A completion date for the project has not yet been set.
